In Akron, Ohio a couple was stopped and commanded to pull over by a man who told them that he was an off-duty cop. It was at 3 a.m. when the incidence occurred as the couple was coming from a friend’s house. Luckily, the real police officers were in the vicinity and they came to rescue the couple.
The man who was identified as Brandon Herron had recently been released from prison and had on several accounts of run-ins with the police. The fake cop was arrested and charged with impersonating a police officer.
The Akron Police Captain Dan Zampelli said that all officers on duty must be in marked police cars and urged off-duty officers to call for a backup immediately they pull over a suspect who had violated traffic rules.
He also advised drivers who doubt the officers to call 911 and inform the police station that they will be stopping at the nearest police station.
