The next video is a KEZI-9 news report out of Springfield. Officers at the Gateway Mall reported seeing a man with a badge and a handgun come to the mall security headquarters, claim he was a police officer, and state that he was looking for a cell phone that had compromised or delicate information on it. The mall contacted the Springfield police department, which then contacted other police forces in the area to ask if they had officers on duty. After receiving negative responses, Springfield officers located and arrested the man who had purported to be one of them. He was subsequently charged with several misdemeanors, including a few that were unrelated to the impersonation incident. Springfield officers went on to say that if someone claims to be a police officer but is out of uniform, it is perfectly legal and fair to ask them to identify themselves.
